Cant hear songs while playing drums?

I find it impossible to jam out to a song on my drum set because i
cant hear the song. i played the song threw my big speakers still
couldnt hear the song over my playing. i put my ipod heaphones on and
then ear muffs over that to make the drums quieter, and i have to put
my ipod almost max volume to hear the music and im pretty sure thats
not safe for my hearing. so how the heck can i jam to a song on drums
without damaging my hearing and still being able to hear the
song/drums.

p.s should i just sell my entire acoustic kit and buy an electronic
one.
